As you know I was out last night but coming back home was surprised to see my remaining pool bet of the day did the business when 11/4 outsiders Holland B surprised the second favourites for the competition Taiwan with an 8-5 win plus my remaining outright pick Germany comfortably progressed past Qatar.
That said, some other things didnt go quite so well last night. The Steve Coogan show at Nottingham was a bit hit and miss as previously reviewed elsewhere, was expecting a bit more of Alan Partridge to be honest but he was only on for about twenty odd minutes in the whole show in his usual kind of environment, though he did appear in a play as Sir Thomas More while under the Partridge guise and thereafter a song and dance routine but still not his usual kind of scenario.
So was expecting a little better overall plus on the way home got the dreaded flash of what appeared to be a speed camera going off at the end of a dual carriageway where there never used to be one, the first time I ever been clocked and a bit miffed really as dont think I was doing anything remotely dangerous as its not a populated area at all, its apparently a 40 speed limit now after doing some enquiries and I was probably doing nearer 50.
To be honest had left my contact lenses in a bit longer than normal and my eyes were getting so tired I had just decided to kick on and try and get home just in the very area where the new camera appeared to have been situated grrr.
Lets hope it was just a large firework but heavy odds on that I get a letter from the local Constabulary within the next ten days or so I'm afraid.
Have had a few more flutters on the World Cup of Pool today, going for all three favourites this afternoon in Spain, Russia and Japan as had them all slightly shorter than the men at SJs plus later on will be playing outsiders Switzerland at 5/2 against China and my main bet of the day on Belgium at 5/6 (now 8/11) who take on Austria late this evening.
As I alluded to yesterday no real fancies on the Premier League snooker tonight, if anything would say the outsiders are slight overlays but on current form not really tempted to back Ding and hard to see the Nugget overcoming Selby either.
Did look at the Ding highest break option at 6/4 against Ronnie, given his record in that sphere last year at first glance it looked reasonable but then found out in five previous meetings between the pair the Rocket has notched the best break on each occasion.
Suppose you could say a bet on Ronnnie at 4/6 therefore looks OK but I dont really want to be taking shortish odds on those kind of markets personally.
Will be watching the early days of the NHL most probably unless theres a standout price, no bets today anyhow, last year the home teams seemed to be winning most of the early matches so will be interesting to see if that trend continues this year.
Will have a look at the Grand Prix snooker tomorrow as it is due to start 12noon in Glasgow on Saturday, though its a truncated programme on the first day with just two matches due to a Queen tribute concert being held next door apparently, so much for the planning!!
Reminds me of the day I went to Prestatyn to see the UK qualifiers a couple of years ago when the playing times were drastically altered due to the "Tidy Weekender Rave" taking place at the same camp and described by promoters as "dirty smut action with lustful ladies and super studs"!! - unbeknown to me at the time of course.
I cant help wondering if I would have come up to scratch, wondered why I was getting some funny looks that day, perhaps it was for the best that I stayed upstairs concentrating on the alternative delights of Hugh Abernethy against Rod Lawler well out of harms way until all the ladies were tucked up in their chalets.
Anyway before I get into any more trouble I'll say adios for now
Good luck
Rick
